Clive Wood, Ph.D.

Bio

Clive Wood, Ph.D., joined OrbiMed in 2025 as a Venture Partner. Prior to joining OrbiMed, he served for over ten years as Global Head, Discovery Research at Boehringer Ingelheim where there was significant portfolio productivity across all disease areas and modalities. Previously, he served as Head, Global Biologics at Bayer HealthCare (2009-2014), Chief Scientific Officer at Dyax Corp (2003-2009), and Senior Scientist at Genetics Institute, Inc. (1986-2003). Clive’s personal scientific accomplishments have focused on antibody therapeutics and cytokines in oncology and inflammation, including his discovery of the PD-1: PD-L1/PD-L2 pathway. He is a co-inventor of the core patents that relate to the treatment of cancer with antibodies against PD-1 and its ligands. Clive received a Bachelor of Science and a Ph.D. from Imperial College London.
